Playing for Change: Aramco Korea Drives Sustainability at the Ballpark

Launched in 2024 at Jamsil Baseball Stadium, Aramco Korea’s Multi-use Plastic Food Tray Program has transformed how snacks at the baseball stadiums in Seoul are served and enjoyed at the sporting events. In 2025, the program expanded to Gocheok Sky Dome — Korea’s only domed stadium and a landmark of sports and culture — in collaboration with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the Seoul Association of Self-Sufficiency Promotion Centers, the Doosan Bears, LG Sports, the Kiwoom Heroes, and Amoje Food.

Multi-use Plastic Food Tray Program Partnership Ceremony

In his remarks at the citizenship partnership ceremony held at the Gocheok Sky Dome in June, Khalid A. Radi, acting Representative Director of Aramco Korea noted “We believe baseball is not only played on the field — it is also played by those in the stands, by fans, and through the choices we make. His words reflect the heart of the initiative. By choosing reusable trays over disposable ones, citizens become part of the game — a game where everyone can contribute to our sustainability initiatives.

The reusable food trays

The program’s impact is measurable. In its first year, it distributed 100,000 reusable trays, reducing approximately 17 tons of plastic waste. In 2025, the number has grown to 150,000 trays, with an estimated reduction of 28 tons of plastic waste. After use, each tray is collected at designated return points, then washed and sterilized at certified facilities for reuse. Aramco Korea’s volunteers — from leadership to new hires — stand on the frontlines, guiding fans to participate in this circular system.

On a warm summer evening at Seoul’s iconic Gocheok Sky Dome, the roar of baseball fans fills the air. Amid the excitement, a team of volunteers in Aramco vests move swiftly through the stands. They’re not selling snacks or cheering for a team — they’re Aramco Korea employees, helping fans use and return reusable food trays to reduce waste.

The Multi-use Plastic Food Tray Program goes beyond corporate responsibility, showing how partnerships can drive a more sustainable society. Small actions by individuals combine into a powerful collective impact, inspiring wider participation and building a culture of environmental stewardship beyond the stadium. As it grows, the program reflects Aramco Korea’s long-term commitment to sustainability and its belief that meaningful change begins with shared action.
